Part 1 — Baseline

Gather 12 months of water bills. Convert everything to the same unit (gallons or cubic metres).

Part 2 — Meter leak test

Turn off every tap, appliance, and irrigation zone. Read the meter, wait 30 minutes with nothing running, read it again.

Part 3 — Fixture survey

Measure flow with a measuring jug and a stopwatch: run the fixture for 10 seconds, multiply by 6 for litres or gallons per minute.

For each fix, estimate the water saved per year, multiply by your price per unit, and divide the cost by the saving to get simple payback in years.
